Basanti Devi College

Basanti Devi College, Kolkata was established in 1959. It is a premier undergraduate institution for girls affiliated to the University of Calcutta as one of the first sponsored colleges by the Government of West Bengal under scheme 2F of the UGC. IGNOU, Basanti Devi College Convergence Program is initiated in 2008 with an intention to merge the traditional class room based studies with distant learning mode under one roof. The main goal of the college is to equip the enrolled students with, academic degrees, and to help them to develop a sense of self respect and self reliance, empowerment and emancipation, irrespective of the social strata of their origin. 

Apart from training to be good academicians, the girls are taught to honor certain fundamental social values, like respect and consideration for fellow beings and the necessity for working harmoniously as part of a group. The teachers also help them to come forward in the academic field with new zeal. The college itself is involved in regular counseling of the girl’s students coming to the college from different socio-cultural and economic background and helps them to have a normal life of their own. The motto of the college is not only to support bright students but also guide all of the students to face bigger challenges in life.
