Chatra College Chatra came into existence on 1st July, 1961 under the illustrious leadership of Dr. Keshri Nandan Sahay to facilitate the students of rural and backward area gain higher education. It is a constituent unit of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag. It is located off the main road at Chatra. (a new district created on 31st March, 1991), a town of sylvan surrounding and tranquility. Prior to this, Chatra was a sub-division of Hazaribag district. It is about 65 km away from Hazaribag, Headquarters of North Chotanagpur Division and approximately 150 km from Ranchi, Capital of Jharkhand State. 

The establishment of this college brought a significant change in the educational map of this thickly SC populated area. It is spreading the light of higher education not only in the district but also in the whole region of Chatra Parliamentary Constituency. Academically, Chatra College, Chatra has great record of performance in all the academic sessions of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, Jharkhand.
