Durgapur Women's College, Durgapur was established to promote the higher education in this region. This is a Private Aided College. The aim of the college is to provide ideal environment to develop mental, Physical, social and spiritual level of students. The curriculum is designed by the Boards of Studies of Burdwan University. The College comes under the University of Burdwan. This University was started in 1960 with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor. It occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star statuses by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state. The jurisdiction of the university spreads across five districts of West Bengal - Burdwan, Hooghly (excluding Serampore Subdivision), Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia, nourishing more than 100 colleges. The University is facilitated with various type of modern infrastructure.
