About College

Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Dhenkanal is a fully Autonomous Institute of Govt. of Orissa.(Formerly Orissa College of Engineering) came in to existence in 1982. The Institution was inaugurated by the then Hon'ble Chief Minister of Orissa, Sri J. B. Pattnaik on 6.3.1983 as an affiliated college to theBiju Patnaik University of Technology.Initially the institution was managed directly by the Govt. of Orissa.

There after as per the decision of the Govt. of Orissa, the institution came under the management of a registered autonomous society with effect from 1.4.1984. The Modern Polytechnic, offering Diploma courses in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering was merged with the above society with effect from 1.4.1987 under the nomenclature of " Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang".
