Kabikankan Mukundaram Mahavidyalaya, Hooghly was established to impart quality education to the students of the region. The college is named after Kabikankan Mukundaram, a famous poet in Bengali literature. This is a private aided college. The aim of the college is to provide quality education to the students. The curriculum, offered by this college is designed by the Boards of Studies of Burdwan University. The college offers under graduate courses in Arts stream. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities including a well stocked library.

The college comes under the University of Burdwan in 1989. The University was started in 1960 with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor. It occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star statuses by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state.
