About College

Founded in 1912, Loreto College is a women’s college affiliated to Calcutta University. It is the first college in West Bengal to have been assessed by the prestigious National Assessment and Accreditation Council of the U.G.C. and awarded the highest rating of five stars in 2000. The B.Ed. Department, founded in 1913, is recognized by the N.C.T.E. and was awarded a B+ grade by N.A.A.C. in 2003. Currently, there are approximately 800 students in the College.

The courses offered at this college include B.A. (Honours & General) in Education, English, History & Political Science; B.Sc. (Honours & General) in Geography; B.A. (General) in Bengali, Hindi, Economics, Journalism, Film Studies & Psychology; the B.A. (Major) course in Communicative English as well as the post-graduate B.Ed. course.
