The MITS School of Biotechnology is headed by Prof. M.R.Panigrahi (Prof. and HOD) with 28 years of vast experience in R&D in the field of Project Engineering, Industrial Environment, Biomass Gasification and many more, followed by lots of publications in the national and international journals. He has received the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award as Best Scientist of Orissa 2001.

The biological processes are often far more efficient than chemical synthesis, and have little adverse environmental impact. These recent developments in molecular biology and their commercial applications are known as “BIOTECHNOLOGY”. The recent focus has been on application oriented new biology and biotechnology covering agriculture and plants, genomics, molecular medicine, bioinstrumentation, bioinformatics, biofuels, biofertilizers, biopesticides, human resources development, environment & biodiversity. The first floor of the building holds classrooms, seminar halls and a good library of latest books on biotechnology. The second floor, which is nearing complition, will house a full-fledged bioinformatics lab, lecture halls and extension of plant biotechnology.

The MITS biotechnology park being developed on a 50 acre land, is getting ready with facilities like hardening chamber, green houses, mushroom production, vermin-composing unit, bioenergy unit, organic faming etc.
