Sabang Sajanikanta Mahavidyalaya(SSM), Paschim Medinipur was established in 1970. This is an  affiliated college. The college was established to promote higher education in this area. The college is providing the needs of higher and quality education of the rural youths of Bengal. The college is conveniently located and infrastructure of the campus generates an ideal ambiance for studies. The college has well experienced teachers to enlighten the aspiring students. The college offers courses in Arts and Science stream. The curriculum is designed by the Boards of Studies of Vidyasagar University. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities.

The college is affiliated to the Vidyasagar University, a state University, established in 1981. This is a renowned University and named after one of the most illustrious sons of Bengal as well as one of the doyens of Indian Renaissance, Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. The University was established with a mission to fulfill the higher mainstream education needs of the region. The University has been awarded with 3-star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
