Sree Gopal Banerjee College, Hooghly was established in 1958. It is an affiliated and Private aided college. The college was established to promote education in this area. The college is providing the needs of higher and quality education of the local people. The college offers undergraduate courses in Arts, commerce and Science stream and has morning, Day and evening session.The curriculum is designed by the Boards of Studies of Burdwan University. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities. A variety of teaching and learning techniques are employed to impart knowledge and skills to the students of the college.

The College is affiliated to the University of Burdwan. This University was started in 1960 with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor. It occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state.
