About College

St. Joseph's College (SJC), Darjeeling was established in 1888 along with the School Department. The college is a government-aided, Christian minority, co-educational college in Darjeeling. It is owned and managed by the Darjeeling Jesuits of North Bengal.  The primary goal of the Institution is to contribute to the public interest by providing high quality education through various academic programmes that shape students into socially committed citizen.  The college provides a unique educational environment with its own administrative building. The college has state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure.

The college is affiliated to North Bengal University, established in 1962 with a goal to disseminate knowledge to fulfill growing socio-economic and technical manpower needs in the six North Bengal districts and the neighboring state of Sikkim. This is a state university situated near Siliguri in Darjeeling district. The University was established by Act of the Legislature of West Bengal in 1962. This was the first university in the region. The University has played a pioneering role since inception in spreading higher education and scientific attitudes within the predominantly rural areas that comprise its vast jurisdictional territory.
