About College

Suri Vidyasagar College, Birbhum was established in 1942 during the World War II and presently a Govt. sponsored college in West Bengal. The College is one of the biggest colleges in the Birbhum district. The College offers honors courses in 16 subjects of Science, Commerce and Humanities under the affiliation of the University of Burdwan. The College has a number of high quality teachers known for their outstanding contribution in their respective field of activities. The college volunteered for institutional accreditation by NAAC, Bangalore, in November 2005. After analysis the executive committee of the NAAC has given grade B+. The aim of the college is to impart Higher Education and development of Personality and also raising Socio-Cultural Awareness.

First the college was established as a branch of Vidyasagar College, Calcutta (under C.U.). It was separated from the main Vidyasagar College (Calcutta) in 1948 and took separate affiliation under Calcutta University. In 1956 it became a sponsored college of the Govt. of West Bengal and the college came under the purview of section 2f of the UGC Act from 1956. From 1960 it became affiliated under Burdwan University. All academic activities are carried out in accordance with the prescribed syllabi, examination schedules and academic calendar of the Burdwan University. The college offers under graduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science stream. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities. A variety of teaching and learning techniques are employed to impart knowledge and skills to the students of the college.
