Taki Government College

Taki Government College had first opened its doors for the students on 15th September, 1950. The college has traversed a long way ever since. Located on the banks of the river ICHHAMATI, the prestigious college has acquired a place of its own in constructing and defining the destiny of students down the years.

Surrounded by lass greenery the college is composed of a science and an arts building. There is also an annexure building for the department of Geography. The college has witnessed pages of history unfolding itself as it stands as a proud repository tradition, culture and heritage.

The total student strength is about 2500 in different courses of studies. The college runs in two section, Morning and Day section. The B.A General (Pass) courses are held in the Morning at 7.45 am. The Advanced (Honours) courses in Arts and Science along with Post-graduate course in Bengali are held during Day section at 10.30 am.

The full time professors of the college are appointed by the Government of West Bengal under West Bengal Educational Service according to the norms specified by the University Grants Commission. The teachers are transferred to different Govt. college as per the rules of the W.B.E.S. The govt. of West Bengal also appoints the non-teaching staffs of the college. A large number of part-time teachers are also engaged to take class in various subjects. Retired teachers are assigned to undertake teaching responsibilities on part-time basis based on the eligibility criteria at par with the whole time teachers against existing available posts.

The Higher Education department headed by the Director of Public Instruction and Principal Secretary controls the administration of the college and frames all the policies and functional modalities of the college meant for the Principal for execute. The Governing Body headed by the District Magistrate as the president.

The college depends on grants received from the Government of west Bengal and the University Grants Commission. A computer training centre, NSS and Netaji Shubhas Open University are also attached to the college. The college is facilitated by a students hostel meant to cater to the needs of out-station candidates. The Library is well-stocked and is geared towards an all-round development of the students. Seminars are held for the benefit of the students. Sporting activities are held round the year. The students union offers a platform to the students to voice their concern. Students can interact with each other in the common room and engage themselves in creative activities. The college also has a canteen for the benefits of its students. Magazines are published to develop to enable students to develop their innate potentials.
