Vidyasagar Mahavidyalaya(VM), Hooghly is a renowned, Co-Education college in Hooghly.  The college is providing the needs of higher and quality education of the local people. The aim of the college is to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need in this era of information and teaching and as well as to provide ideal environment to develop. The college is associated with well experienced teachers to enlighten the aspiring students. The college offers undergraduate courses both at honours and general level in disciplines of Arts and Commerce. The excellent infrastructure of the campus generates an ideal ambiance for studies.

The college is affiliated to the Calcutta University. It is the oldest of the modern universities in India. It was established in 1857 during the administration of Lord Canning, the Governor General of India. It is the only university in India which produced four Nobel laureates and has ranked consistently amongst the first five hundred universities in the world. It was the first modern university in the Indian subcontinent. It has been declared as a "Five Star University" and a "Centre with Potential for Excellence" by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
