Joint Entrance Examination ( JEE Main )

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE), New Delhi introduced the national level common entrance exam called Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted for admission to various engineering colleges in India. JEE Main examination was being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) till 2018. From 2019 onwards, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is going to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).JEE will be conducted by NTA twice a year for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmers in NIT's, IIIT's and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions.

The Joint Entrance Exam will be conducted in two parts, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE (Main) replaces the AIEEE entrance exam and JEE (Advanced) replaced the IIT-JEE entrance exam. Around 25220 seats Engineering and Architecture seats are filled every year on the basis of JEE Main Score.

The aim of the common entrance test has been mooted to reduce stress on students, who have to appear for multiple entrance examinations and to give greater relevance to the school education, especially the class 12 board examinations.

JEE Main / Advanced Physics papers:

  1. Current Electricity: 8 questions asked on the actual JEE paper each year on an average.
  2. Electrostatics: 4 questions
  3. Optics: 3 questions
  4. Heat and Thermodynamics:  2 questions
  5. Law of Motion: 2 questions
  6. Waves: 2 questions
  7. Simple Harmonic Motion: 2 questions

JEE Main / Advanced Maths papers:

  1. Coordinate Geometry – 7 Questions were asked on an average every year in the JEE.
  2. Continuity/ Differentiability, Limits – 3 Questions
  3. Complex No., Quadratic Equation – 3 Questions each
  4. Integral Calculus – 3 Questions
  5. Sequence and Series – 2 Questions
  6. Trigonometry – 2 Questions

JEE Main / Advanced Chemistry papers:

  1. Transition Element and Coordination Chemistry – 3 questions are asked each year on an average in JEE
  2. Periodic Table and Representative Elements – 3 questions
  3. Gaseous State – 2 questions
  4. Atomic structure – 2 questions
  5. Amines – 2 questions
  6. Solution and Colligative Properties – 2 questions
  7. General Organic Chemistry – 2 questions
  8. Carboxylic Acids and Derivatives – 1 question
  9. Hydrocarbons – 1 question
  10. Carbohydrate, Amino Acids and Polymer – 1 question
