Joint Entrance Examination ( JEE Main )

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE), New Delhi introduced the national level common entrance exam called Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted for admission to various engineering colleges in India. JEE Main examination was being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) till 2018. From 2019 onwards, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is going to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).JEE will be conducted by NTA twice a year for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmers in NIT's, IIIT's and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions.

The Joint Entrance Exam will be conducted in two parts, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE (Main) replaces the AIEEE entrance exam and JEE (Advanced) replaced the IIT-JEE entrance exam. Around 25220 seats Engineering and Architecture seats are filled every year on the basis of JEE Main Score.

The aim of the common entrance test has been mooted to reduce stress on students, who have to appear for multiple entrance examinations and to give greater relevance to the school education, especially the class 12 board examinations.

JEE Main 2018 Counselling at a Glance

The candidates who have qualified the JEE Main exam 2018 are eligible for the counselling process. Seat allocation will be based on the basis of rank scored by the candidates. Candidates can select the seats of government and private engineering colleges on the basis of his/ her choice. JEE Main 2018 counselling will be held for both the courses i.e. engineering and architecture. Candidates who are eligible for both the courses will be allotted only one seat as per their first preference.

JEE Main 2018 Counselling Procedure

JEE Main counselling procedure comprises of the following steps:

Step 1- Online Registration

  1. Go to the official website of JEE Main 2018.
  2. Enter all the details such as name, date of birth, category, address and bank details.
  3. Pay the counselling fees via- challan, debit card or credit card.

Step 2- Online Choice Filling and Locking

  1. Login your account.
  2. Mark options of colleges and courses after login.
  3. Make choices carefully, choices once locked will not be changed.
  4. Fill maximum possible choices for allotment.
  5. Lock the choices before the deadline.
  6. Choice locking will be done after each round of counselling.
  7. Candidates can mark upgraded choice in successive rounds of choice filling and locking process.

Step 3- Seat Allotment and Document Verification

  1. Allotment will be done on the basis of reservation norms, choices filled and vacancies.
  2. There will be multiple rounds of counselling and seat allotment.
  3. Pay the fees to confirm the allotment of seat.
  4. Get all the documents checked by the officials.
  5. A provisional admission letter will be issued on completion of the process.

Step 4- Reporting to Allocated Institute

  1. Candidates must report to the allotted institute with all the documents and certificates.

JEE Main 2018 Spot Seat Allotment

  1. A spot round of seat allotment is possible if there are vacant seats from the usual rounds of counselling.
  2. No fresh registration is required from an already registered candidate.

JEE Main 2018 Counselling- Necessary Documents

  1. Class X certificate.
  2. Class XII certificate.
  3. Category certificate (if applicable)
  4. Passport size photographs.
  5. JEE Main 2018 rank card.
